Taking your dog out
Whenever you take you dog outside you should never give up the leash and collar. Yet I am sure you have taught your dog to stay near you even if he is not wearing a leash you never know what could happen. He might get distracted but if you also have a tag and license attached to the collar there are more chances that you get your dog back.

Before getting you dog get used to the leash you should first make him get used to the collar. It will be very difficult doing this especially is the size doesn’t fit with the dog. You must measure the neck and to choose the appropriate collar. After you have found the one that matches your dog, just let him gat used to it. It is perfectly normal if at first he is trying to get rid of the collar by pulling it out or if he squirms.

When he is trying to get out of the collar you should simply ignore him and not to encourage the behavior or to punish him for doing like this. A better action will be that of giving him a toy to play with or something to eat in way to forget he is wearing something strange and unusual.

When you have done this, try making him get used to the leash too. Of course, this should be done in the house or in a surrounded place. When you have attached the leash, just stay near the puppy and watch him carefully in way not to hang himself with is or in way not to destroy the leash.

When you do this for the first time, just leave it attached to the dog for only a few minutes. It is recommended to put the leash on when the dog is having fun or when he is doing something that he enjoys in way not to associate the leash with something bad.
